Getting to the Airport
We booked our cruise through Anchors Away Cruises and Tours on a "price match" offer by another travel agent. The other agent was in Fort Myers, Florida and offered a shuttle service to the airport and another one from the port backto Fort Myers.
Anchors Away was not able to provide the shuttle service, so instead gave us a $100.00 per person allowance to cover travel to and from the airport and port. Originally, we were going to fly out of Miami, then return to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. Since we would have been responsible for getting to and from Fort Myers from Port Charlotte, and paying any parking fees, we thought that Anchor Away's allowance was more than fair.
We made a rental car reservation (no charge) from Port Charlotte to the Miami Airport and another from the Fort Lauderdale Airport back to Port Charlotte. This would require additional transportation from Port Everglades to the Fort Lauderdale Airport, which we had not yet arranged.
Now, our flight will originate in Fort Lauderdale and end in Fort Lauderdale, creating other options in getting from Port Charlotte to Fort Lauderdale. Either change the first reservation to go to Fort Lauderdale instead of Miami, or cancel all rental cars reservations and drive our own car. Our reservations were made using Budget, the only company offering one-way rentals.
Julia checked on the internet and found a Park and Fly company where you can park your car for $6.00 per day, including free shuttle ervice from the parking lot to and from both the airport and Port Everglades. You can search at AirportParkingReservations.com, then scroll down to the offer you prefer. We selected Continental Airport Parking, which offered the rate mentioned.
