A Tree-Mendous Giveaway - Plant a Tree

In a program to help restore the tree canopy of Charlotte County after the devastating loss of trees during Hurricane Charlie, the local County Agriculture Extension office and the University of Florida, sponsors an annual "Tree-Mendous Giveaway".  This program is open to all Florida land owners, and provides 2 trees per family to help replace those missing trees.

To qualify you must preregister, select the two desired tree varieties, and agree to attend an approximate 45 minute demonstration of the proper method of planting and maintaining a tree in Florida. Yesterday at 9:00 AM was our scheduled time to attend the workshop and pick up our trees.  We chose a Crape Myrtle and a Barbados Cherry. We were expecting seedlings or saplings, but each of these trees were nursery quality and approximately 4 feet tall.

Today, we are going to use our newly acquired knowledge and plant the trees. You can read an expanded version of the instructions we were given by clicking this link to the Florida Department of Agriculture website.
